Cob Oven Workshop
We just completed a weekend earthen oven build with ten participants. It was a smashing success!
The oven was built at our neighbor and friend’s house two doors down from our Be the Change Project. Normally, I’ll take a week or more to build and finish an oven but it is possible to get as far as the base coat plaster in two days. We don’t put a finish plaster on because it will crack like crazy while the layers underneath dry at a different rate.
Between building parts of the oven we spent time at our urban homestead doing a tour of our natural buildings and gardens as well as applying three types of finish plasters two of our ovens. And, of course, the pizza party was held on our deck with our bigger oven. A good time was had by all!
We look forward to holding two oven and introduction to natural building workshops next year. Probably a three or four day class. Check back in September for new class postings.
